RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- GENERAL STATE OFFICERS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Chapter 17-2 of the General Laws entitled "General State Officers" is hereby
2 amended by adding thereto the following section:
3 17-2-7. Gubernatorial qualifications.
4 No person shall be eligible to seek election to the office of governor unless they have
5 resided within the limits of the state at least five (5) years next preceding any election for that office.
6 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

1 This act would require any person seeking the office of governor to live in Rhode Island
2 for five (5) years prior to the election for that office.
3 This act would take effect upon passage.
