This bill amends Chapter 4-19 of the General Laws entitled "Animal Care" by adding a new section. The new section states that public animal shelters cannot charge an adoption fee for a dog or cat if the person adopting the animal is 60 years of age or older and presents a valid identification document proving their age. The bill also allows the shelter to limit the animals available for adoption to those that have passed sexual maturity and to limit the number of animals that can be adopted by an elder person to one every six months. The bill would take effect upon passage.
