This bill amends Section 9-1-51 of the General Laws to remove the statute of limitations for all claims or causes of action based on sexual abuse or exploitation of a child. Previously, there was a time limit of either 35 years from the act alleged to have caused the injury or condition, or 7 years from the time the victim discovered or reasonably should have discovered the injury or condition. The bill also clarifies that claims or causes of action against any party, including claims of negligent supervision or conduct that contributed to childhood sexual abuse, are not subject to any statute of limitations. The bill takes effect upon passage.
