This bill amends the General Laws to create the Fort Adams Foundation as a body, corporate and politic, to promote interest in and plan, develop, coordinate, encourage, facilitate, set standards, and programs and projects relating to the restoration, renovation, reconstruction, and use of the historical Fort Adams State Park. The bill also amends the composition of the foundation to include a representative from the division of parks and recreation, appointed by the director of the department of environmental management, and three public members appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. The governor is required to consider recommendations from the Rhode Island historical preservation commission, the City of Newport, and the Fort Adams Trust board of directors when making appointments. The director of the department of environmental management, or their designee, will act as chairperson of the foundation. The power of the foundation will be vested in and exercised by its members, with three members constituting a quorum for the transaction of business. Employees of the foundation will be selected and appointed by the foundation, and will have the powers and duties determined by the foundation. The governor will nominate three members to serve initial terms of one, two, and three years, and thereafter all appointed members will serve three-year terms. Temporary appointments may be made by the governor if the senate is not in session on the effective date of the act. The act will take effect upon passage.
