This bill amends the Insurance Company Law of 1921 by adding new provisions regarding the reimbursement process for emergency medical services (EMS) provided by non-network agencies. Specifically, it introduces a requirement for insurers to provide written notifications to policyholders when they reimburse for such services. This notification must include essential details such as the date of service, the name of the EMS agency, an itemized explanation of the claim and reimbursement amounts, the billing address of the EMS agency, and a disclosure statement emphasizing that the reimbursement funds are to be used solely for the payment of the emergency medical services liability. The bill also warns that using these funds for any other purpose may lead to insurance fraud claims.
Additionally, the bill mandates that insurers notify the EMS agency on a monthly basis when a claim payment has been issued to the policyholder for medically necessary emergency medical services. This aims to enhance communication between insurers and EMS agencies, ensuring that all parties are informed about the reimbursement process. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
