A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of October 2024 as "Careers in
2 Construction Month" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, The construction industry is one of our nation's
4 largest industries, employing more than 5 million individuals in
5 the United States; and
6 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth relies on more than 200,000
7 construction workers and has the fifth largest construction
8 workforce in the nation; and
9 WHEREAS, The construction industry needs more than 1 million
10 new craft professionals; and
11 WHEREAS, "Careers in Construction Month" increases public
12 awareness and appreciation of construction craft professionals
13 and the entire construction workforce; and
14 WHEREAS, During this month, employers, associations and
15 schools are encouraged to conduct job fairs, panel discussions
16 and local community events to inform students of the vast
17 employment opportunities in construction; and
18 WHEREAS, There are many avenues available for individuals to
1 receive training in the field of construction, including trade
2 schools, joint apprenticeships, nonjoint apprenticeships,
3 community college programs, vocational training programs,
4 employer-provided industry training and online programs, each
5 tailored to suit the diverse aspirations and learning styles of
6 aspiring builders and craftsmen; and
7 WHEREAS, The variety of training and programs available helps
8 to narrow the skill gap by guiding America's youth and displaced
9 workers into opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding
10 careers in construction and provide many paths for individuals
11 to become craft professionals; therefore be it
12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
13 month of October 2024 as "Careers in Construction Month"; and be
14 it further
15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor
16 construction craft professionals and the critical role that they
17 play in the development of this Commonwealth; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
19 residents of this Commonwealth to join in the special observance
20 of "Careers in Construction Month."
