In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would establish the Social Media Hate Speech Accountability Act. This legislation mirrors a 2020 effort by New York State Senator David Carlucci.

Social media has transformed the way we communicate with one another; unfortunately, this transformation has not been entirely positive. Through use of platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, individuals have become more emboldened now than ever before to proliferate hate speech.

My legislation would require social media network providers to maintain an effective and transparent procedure for handling complaints about hate speech content. Additionally, my legislation would require these providers to supply users with an easily recognizable, directly accessible, and permanently available procedure for submitting complaints about hate speech.

Please join me in supporting this legislation to make clear that hate speech is not welcomed anywhere in our Commonwealth, including on social media.
