7 An Act relating to meat and poultry inspections;
7 authorizing the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture,
8 Food, and Forestry to review methods of remote
8 viewing or other digital inspection; requiring the
9 Department to apply for use of inspection technology
9 from the applicable federal agency; providing for
10 promulgation of rules; limiting remote inspections to
10 intrastate commerce unless otherwise approved;
11 requiring the Department to keep videos confidential;
11 providing for codification; and providing an
12 effective date.

15 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

16 SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
16
17 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 6-181.2 of Title 2, unless there
17
18 is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:

19 A. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry
19
20 shall review methods of remote viewing or other digital inspection
20
21 technology for meat and poultry product inspections.
21
22 B. If the Department determines a suitable method of remote
22
23 viewing or other digital inspection technology upon completion of
23
24 the review, then the Department shall make application to the

1 federal agency governing meat and poultry inspection to request use

2 of the technology.

3 C. Upon approval by the federal agency governing meat and
3
4 poultry inspection, the Department shall promulgate rules to
4
5 implement the use of remote viewing or other digital inspection
5
6 technology.

7 D. The use of remote viewing or other digital inspection
7
8 technology shall be restricted to inspections of meat and poultry
8
9 products sold only in intrastate commerce, unless the federal agency
9
10 governing meat and poultry inspection approves it for interstate
10
11 commerce.

12 E. The videos from remote viewing or digital inspection
12
13 obtained pursuant to this section shall be kept confidential by the
13
14 Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry.

15 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2023.
