A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Workers Memorial Day in Ohio,
April 28, 2023.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize April 28, 2023, as 2
Workers Memorial Day in Ohio; and 3
WHEREAS, After decades of struggle by workers and their unions, 4
the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Mine Safety and Health Act 5
were passed to improve safety in the workplace, but although there 6
have been significant improvements, millions of workers are killed or 7
injured on the job each year because of dangerous working conditions. 8
Designated in the Ohio Revised Code in 1990, Workers Memorial Day is 9
celebrated every April 28, when organizations throughout Ohio remember 10
these workers by recommitting themselves to stopping on-the-job 11
injuries and fatalities in the future and to fighting for better job 12
safety and health protections; and 13
WHEREAS, Countless individuals throughout our vast labor force 14
have helped to build this nation and have created the climate of 15
abundance we presently enjoy. The successful struggle for effective 16
and responsible employee representation has guaranteed that working 17
men and women have a strong voice in the economic decision-making 18
which affects the quality of life for all. Many capable individuals 19
have striven to ensure the well-being of our country’s workers, and it 20
is through the tremendous efforts of various groups that the continued 21
progress and prosperity of the American laborer are certain; and 22
WHEREAS, During Workers Memorial Day in Ohio, people will come 23
together to voice the need for work in this country that is safe and 24
healthy and pays fair wages, and they will remember those who have 25
suffered and died in an unsafe work environment and will renew the 26

fight for safe jobs. Over the years, those in the workforce have 27
striven to better the quality of life in our society, and we are 28
certain that as they maintain their dedication to workplace safety, 29
they will continue in the tradition of excellence that has long been 30
the hallmark of the Workers Memorial Day in Ohio movement; therefore 31
be it 32
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 33
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 34
recognize April 28, 2023, as Workers Memorial Day in Ohio and urge all 35
citizens to take part in appropriate projects and activities in 36
support of this noteworthy event; and be it further 37
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 38
duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the Cincinnati AFL-CIO 39
Labor Council and the news media of Ohio. 40
