A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Ohio Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month,
April 2023.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio wish to recognize April 2023 as Ohio Child Abuse and Neglect 2
Prevention Month; and 3
WHEREAS, Preventing child abuse and neglect is critical for the 4
long-term well-being of our state and nation, for harm inflicted upon 5
those who are young and vulnerable has lasting repercussions, not only 6
for victims and their families but also for our society as a whole. We 7
must unite to help actualize a brighter future for successive 8
generations by promoting the effective development of our youth; and 9
WHEREAS, Statistics show that the number of children who are 10
abused and neglected in Ohio and across the country continues to rise. 11
In order to prevent the increase of this crime in the future, it is 12
necessary for all concerned citizens to join not only in educating the 13
general public, including potential offenders, about the effects of 14
this injustice but also in developing a general consciousness 15
regarding its far-reaching devastation; and 16
WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect is a community problem, and 17
finding the key to ending it depends on the cooperation and 18
involvement of government leaders, family members, educators, and 19
faith-based and civic organizations. It is vital that we all join 20
forces to prevent the occurrence and reoccurrence of this preventable 21
crime, for we must hold sacred the trust of our children who represent 22
Ohio’s most valuable resource; therefore be it 23
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 24
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, recognize April 2023 as 25

As Adopted by the Senate
Ohio Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month and urge all citizens to 26
observe this time with appropriate programs and activities; and be it 27
further 28
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated 29
copies of this Resolution to the news media of Ohio and the Ohio 30
Children’s Trust Fund. 31
