A RESOLUTION
Honoring Hirzel Farms, Inc.
on its One Hundredth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to commend Hirzel Farms, Inc., on 2
the auspicious occasion of its Centennial; and 3
WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is, indeed, a 4
fitting tribute to Hirzel Farms, for throughout the century, this fine 5
homestead has left an indelible mark on the surrounding area. 6
Established by Carl R. Hirzel as Hirzel Canning Company and Farms in 7
1923, the farm was incorporated as a separate entity in 1963, and it 8
has seen many changes over the years but continues to endure as a 9
pioneer in sustainable and organic agricultural practices, including 10
the pragmatic use of cover crop rotation. Indeed, this event is a 11
justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on 12
the company itself but also on the astute management of its fourth- 13
generation family member, Lou Kozma, Jr., on its team of employees, 14
and on the Luckey community as a whole; and 15
WHEREAS, Those who have nurtured, directed, and sustained Hirzel 16
Farms merit praise for their remarkable initiative, diligence, and 17
resolve. With a wealth of vision and vitality, these fine agricultural 18
stewards have shown how very much can be accomplished by a group of 19
conscientious, industrious people, and they can be proud that their 20
unflagging commitment to their family’s history has made it possible 21
for that legacy to flourish; and 22
WHEREAS, At a time of increasing urbanization, when many are 23
forced to rely on the services of a few to survive, farmers have 24
shouldered the responsibility of feeding the world’s population with 25
competence and efficiency. As farmers’ efforts are all too often 26

overlooked, it is appropriate that we commend the many individuals 27
associated with Hirzel Farms, for they have had a positive impact on 28
Ohio’s agricultural community; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 30
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, we 31
congratulate Hirzel Farms, Inc., on its Centennial and extend best 32
wishes for continued prosperity; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 34
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Hirzel Farms, Inc. 35
