                       A RESOLUTION
            Honoring the Columbus Metropolitan Library on its One           1
              Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary.                                 2
     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly       3
of Ohio are pleased to applaud the Columbus Metropolitan Library on         4
the auspicious celebration of its Sesquicentennial; and                     5
     WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting        6
tribute to the Columbus Metropolitan Library, for throughout its            7
history, this fine institution has attained a remarkable record of          8
service to the area. Established in 1873, the system has grown to           9
twenty-three branches across Central Ohio, and it is truly deserving        10
of high praise; and                                                         11
     WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Columbus Metropolitan Library        12
has fostered education, culture, and individual growth by providing a       13
variety of innovative and beneficial programs and services. As a focal      14
point for many local activities and a valuable instrument for               15
community improvement, the library system has earned the respect and        16
appreciation of countless patrons and has set an example of excellence      17
that is worthy of emulation; and                                            18
     WHEREAS, Public libraries play an important role in today's            19
society, serving as receptacles of shared knowledge, information, and       20
ideas. They offer a means of enjoyment, self-advancement, and               21
intellectual development for all individuals, and as repositories for       22
the best of our nation's intellectual endeavors, they are vital to the      23
preservation of our country's heritage, principles, and ideals. We are      24
proud to note that it is through the efforts of institutions such as        25

the Columbus Metropolitan Library that our state has maintained its           26
reputation as a friendly, productive, and pleasant place in which to          27
live and work; therefore be it                                                28
     RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General        29
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the Columbus           30
Metropolitan Library on its One Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary and              31
extend best wishes for continued success; and be it further                   32
     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly                   33
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Columbus Metropolitan            34
Library.                                                                      35
