DETAILED ANALYSIS
The bill designates the following highway and authorizes the Director of Transportation
to erect suitable markers along the highway indicating its name:
Designated Name “PFC Dale Marker Memorial Highway”1
Highway The portion of State Route (S.R.) 571, running in a northwesterly and
southeasterly direction, between the intersection of S.R. 571 and Burkholder
Road and the intersection of S.R. 571 and Gettysburg-Pitsburg Road, in Darke
County.
Other Information Dale Marker was a member of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and was
honorably discharged on November 11, 1945, as a Private First Class. He
enlisted on March 6, 1943, as a light machine gunner in Company L of the 15th
Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division where he fought in four
campaigns. Twice wounded in combat and awarded numerous military
awards for his service (including the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action,
Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in ground combat, and Purple
Heart Medal with one bronze cluster), he was inducted into the Ohio Military
Hall of Fame for Valor on May 3, 2013.
