                       A RESOLUTION
         Recognizing International Year of Glass Day in Ohio
                           August 2, 2022.
     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 134th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize August 2, 2022 as    2
the International Year of Glass Day in Ohio; and                       3
     WHEREAS, On May 18, 2021, the Seventy-fifth session of the United   4
Nations General Assembly designated 2022 as the International Year of    5
Glass in order to emphasize the technological, scientific, economic,     6
environmental, historical, and artistic role of glass in our             7
societies. As part of this year-long celebration, Wood and Lucas         8
counties, the cities of Toledo and Rossford, and the office of           9
Governor Mike DeWine have come together to jointly declare August 2,     10
2022 as International Year of Glass Day in an effort to highlight the    11
many positive contributions that glass has made to our state; and        12
     WHEREAS, The unique character of Ohio has been shaped by the        13
glass industry, which has not only contributed to the economic           14
landscape of various communities but has also brought an influx of       15
diverse people from around the world. Artisans and laborers from such    16
diverse backgrounds as Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, the Czech Republic,     17
Africa, and more were drawn by the promise of potential employment,      18
and thanks to this historic legacy, our state remains a strong           19
incubator for technological advancement and discovery; and               20
     WHEREAS, Glass has had a transformative effect on the fabric of     21
our society not only by creating jobs but also by supporting the         22
development of community assets. Indeed, this legacy can be seen in      23
the works of many great philanthropic endeavors, iconic locations, and   24
financial contributions to countless communities in Northwest Ohio as    25
well as across the entire state; therefore be it                         26

As Offered
     RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 27
the 134th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution,       28
recognize August 2, 2022 as the International Year of Glass Day in     29
Ohio; and be it further                                                30
     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 31
duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of      32
Ohio.                                                                  33
