Existing state law requires the Director of the Department of Health and Human Services to develop and the Department to administer a State Plan for Medicaid, which includes a list of specific medical services required to be provided to Medicaid recipients. (NRS 422.063, 422.270) Existing federal law authorizes states to extend Medicaid coverage for postpartum care for a period of 12 months following the end of pregnancy. (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, Pub. L. No. 117-2, ยง 9812) Section 1 of this bill requires the Director to include in the State Plan for Medicaid coverage for postpartum care services provided to a recipient for 12 months following the end of pregnancy. Section 2 of this bill makes a conforming change to indicate the proper placement of section 1 in the Nevada Revised Statutes. Section 3 of this bill makes an appropriation to, and authorizes expenditure by, the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services of the Department for information technology changes related to the implementation of this bill. Section 4 of this bill makes an appropriation to, and authorizes expenditure by, the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy of the Department for the costs of providing Medicaid coverage for postpartum care services pursuant to this bill.
