This bill amends RSA 200:60, I to allow the commissioner of the department of education the option to either contract the services of a reading specialist or directly employ a staff member who is a reading specialist. The purpose of this amendment is to provide school districts with the necessary support and resources to assist students with dyslexia and related disorders, as well as their families. The reading specialist must be qualified by education and experience as outlined in paragraph II and is responsible for offering technical assistance for dyslexia and related disorders to school districts.

The bill introduces new legal language that permits the employment of a staff member as a reading specialist, in addition to the existing option of securing contract services. There are no deletions from the current law. The act became effective upon its passage, with an approval and effective date of May 19, 2023.
