This bill mandates that transportation monitors must undergo criminal background checks before being employed by public schools. It amends RSA 189:13-a, VI to include transportation monitors among those individuals who must be vetted through criminal history records checks. This category already includes employees such as substitute teachers, cafeteria workers, school bus drivers, custodial personnel, and others who provide direct services to students. The bill removes the exemption that previously excluded transportation monitors from the requirement of undergoing criminal history records checks by the employing school administrative unit, school district, or chartered public school, as outlined in RSA 189:13-b.

Additionally, the bill amends RSA 189:13-b to clarify that the department shall complete a criminal history records check on all school bus drivers, aligning with the procedures for school administrative units, school districts, and chartered public schools as per RSA 189:13-a. The language that previously included transportation monitors in this section has been deleted, reflecting the change that they are now covered under RSA 189:13-a. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage, with an effective date of July 31, 2023.
