1 THE MEMBERS OF THE ONE HUNDRED EIGHTH LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, FIRST
2 SESSION, RESOLVE THAT:
3 Section 1. At the general election in November 2024, the following
4 proposed amendment to the Constitution of Nebraska shall be submitted to
5 the electors of the State of Nebraska for approval or rejection:
6 To amend Article VII, section 3:
7 VII-3 The State Board of Education shall be composed of seven eight
8 members, who shall be appointed by the Governor, with the advice and
9 consent of the Legislature, with initial appointments of two members for
10 a term of two years, two members for a term of four years, and three
11 members for a term of six years. As the terms of the members expire, the
12 Governor shall appoint or reappoint a member for a term of six years to
13 succeed the member whose term expires elected from eight districts of
14 substantially equal population as provided by the Legislature. Their term
15 of office shall be for four years each. Their duties and powers shall be
16 prescribed by the Legislature, and they shall receive no compensation,
17 but shall be reimbursed their actual expense incurred in the performance
18 of their duties. The members of the State Board of Education shall not be
19 actively engaged in the educational profession and they shall be elected
20 on a nonpartisan ballot.
21 Sec. 2. The proposed amendment shall be submitted to the electors
22 in the manner prescribed by the Constitution of Nebraska, Article XVI,
23 section 1, with the following ballot language:
