1 A BILL FOR AN ACT relating to the Medical Assistance Act; to amend
2 section 68-901, Revised Statutes Supplement, 2019; to require
3 information regarding job-skills programs and a report; to provide
4 powers and duties; and to repeal the original section.
5 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Nebraska,

1 Section 1. Section 68-901, Revised Statutes Supplement, 2019, is
2 amended to read:
3 68-901 Sections 68-901 to 68-994 and section 2 of this act shall be
4 known and may be cited as the Medical Assistance Act.
5 Sec. 2. (1) Beginning October 1, 2021, the Department of Health and
6 Human Services shall inform each applicant for medical assistance about
7 job-skills programs within the Department of Health and Human Services,
8 the Department of Labor, or other skill-based programs that could assist
9 the applicant for medical assistance in obtaining job skills or training,
10 employment, higher-paying jobs, or related skills. The Department of
11 Health and Human Services shall connect interested applicants to such
12 job-skills programs.
13 (2) Beginning February 1, 2022, and within thirty days of the
14 expiration of each subsequent calendar quarter within the years 2022 and
15 2023, the Department of Health and Human Services shall report
16 electronically to the Clerk of the Legislature on the total number of
17 applicants for medical assistance who were referred to job-skills
18 programs under this section and any services received under this section
19 by applicants for medical assistance.
20 (3) Beginning January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2023, the
21 Department of Labor shall report quarterly to the Department of Health
22 and Human Services the number of applicants for medical assistance who
23 were referred to job-skills programs under this section, the number of
24 applicants for medical assistance who received help obtaining job skills
25 or training, employment, higher-paying jobs, or related skills under this
26 section, and the types of services received under this section.
27 (4) The Department of Health and Human Services and the Department
28 of Labor shall administer this section.
29 Sec. 3. Original section 68-901, Revised Statutes Supplement, 2019,
30 is repealed.
