1 A concurrent resolution declaring the fourth Saturday in July as "National Day of the Cowboy".
2 WHEREAS, North Dakota pioneering men and women, known as cowboys, helped
3 establish America's frontiers; and
4 WHEREAS, the cowboy archetype transcends gender, generations, ethnicity, geographic
5 boundaries, and political affiliations; and
6 WHEREAS, the cowboy embodies honesty, integrity, courage, compassion, and
7 determination; and
8 WHEREAS, the cowboy spirit exemplifies patriotism and strength of character; and
9 WHEREAS, the cowboy is an excellent steward of the land, it's resources, and it's
10 creatures; and
11 WHEREAS, the core values expressed within the Cowboy Code of Conduct continue to
12 inspire the pursuit of the highest caliber of personal integrity; and
13 WHEREAS, cowboy and ranching traditions have been part of the American landscape and
14 culture since 1523, and today's cowboys and cowgirls continue to strive to preserve and
15 perpetuate this unique element of America's heritage; and
16 WHEREAS, annual attendance at rodeos exceeds thirty million fans worldwide; and
17 WHEREAS, membership and participation in the national day of the Cowboy Organization,
18 Working Ranch Rodeo Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Pro Rodeo Cowboys
19 Association, the Buffalo Soldiers, Cowboy Fast Draw Association, Pro Bull Riding, Little Britches
20 Rodeo, Western Music Association, Women's Pro Rodeo, and other organizations that
21 encompass the livelihood of the cowboy continues to expand both nationally and internationally;
22 and
23 WHEREAS, the cowboy and his horse are a central figure in literature, art, film, poetry,
24 photography, and music; and

1 WHEREAS, the cowboy is a true American icon occupying a central place in the public's
2 imagination;
3 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, THE
4 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN:
5 That the Sixty-sixth Legislative Assembly declares the fourth Saturday in July as "National
6 Day of the Cowboy".
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary of State forward a copy of this resolution
8 to the United States Secretary of Agriculture, the President of the United States Senate, the
9 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of the North Dakota
10 Congressional delegation.
