1 A concurrent resolution directing the Legislative Management to consider studying diabetes,
2 including the forms and costs of treatment, avenues of payment, and impact of the federal
3 Affordable Care Act.
4 WHEREAS, approximately 65,000 adults and children in North Dakota have diabetes; and
5 WHEREAS, the average medical expenses for an individual with diabetes are twice as high
6 as the medical expenses for an individual who does not have diabetes; and
7 WHEREAS, the estimated annual cost of diabetes in North Dakota for 2014 was
8 $700,000,000; and
9 WHEREAS, health insurance coverage is important for individuals with diabetes who need
10 regular health care, laboratory tests, and prescription medications; and
11 WHEREAS, it is important to assess how any future changes in the federal Affordable Care
12 Act may affect health insurance and health outcomes for individuals with diabetes;
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, THE
14 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN:
15 That the Legislative Management consider studying diabetes, including the forms and costs
16 of treatment, avenues of payment, and impact of the federal Affordable Care Act.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislative Management report its findings and
18 recommendations, together with any legislation required to implement the recommendations, to
19 the Sixty-seventh Legislative Assembly.
