Short Title: Study & Abate Ocular Melanoma/Funds. (Public)

2 AN ACT APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO STUDY AND ABATE OCULAR MELANOMA IN
3 NORTHERN MECKLENBURG COUNTY.
4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
5 SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of
6 Health and Human Services the sum of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) in
7 nonrecurring funds for the 2022-2023 fiscal year to be allocated to the Nicholas School of the
8 Environment at Duke University to study the potential causes of and solutions for abating ocular
9 melanoma in the towns of Huntersville and Cornelius and the surrounding area. In conducting
10 this study, the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University shall coordinate with the
11 North Carolina Policy Collaboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (the
12 Collaboratory) and employ the strategies recommended by the Collaboratory in its April 2020
13 report to the General Assembly under S.L. 2019-145.
14 SECTION 2. The Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, in
15 cooperation with the Collaboratory, shall submit a report on the results of the study authorized
16 by Section 1 of this act, including any proposed legislation, to the Joint Legislative Oversight
17 Committee on Health and Human Services on or before December 1, 2023.
18 SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2022.
