Short Title: Prohibit Private Money in Elections Admin. (Public)

3 ELECTIONS OR HIRING TEMPORARY ELECTIONS WORKERS.
4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
5 SECTION 1. G.S. 163-22 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
6 "(s) Nothing in this Chapter shall grant authority to the State Board of Elections to accept
7 private monetary donations, directly or indirectly, for conducting elections or employing
8 individuals on a temporary basis."
9 SECTION 2. G.S. 163-33 is amended by adding a new subdivision to read:
10 "(17) Nothing in this Chapter shall grant authority to county boards of elections to
11 accept private monetary donations, directly or indirectly, for conducting
12 elections or employing individuals on a temporary basis."
13 SECTION 3. G.S. 163-37 reads as rewritten:
14 "ยง 163-37. Duty of county board of commissioners.
15 (a) The respective boards of county commissioners shall appropriate reasonable and
16 adequate funds necessary for the legal functions of the county board of elections, including
17 reasonable and just compensation of the director of elections.
18 (b) Nothing in this Chapter shall grant authority to county boards of commissioners to
19 accept private monetary donations, directly or indirectly, for conducting elections or employing
20 individuals under this Chapter on a temporary basis."
21 SECTION 4. This act becomes effective July 1, 2021.
