2 AN ACT TO STUDY EMERGING ENERGY GENERATION SOURCES, ISSUES, AND
3 TRENDS, INCLUDING ADVANCED SMALL MODULAR (NUCLEAR) REACTORS.
4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
5 SECTION 1.(a) The North Carolina Policy Collaboratory at the University of North
6 Carolina at Chapel Hill (Collaboratory) shall study emerging energy generation sources, issues,
7 and trends, including advanced small modular reactors (advanced SMRs). The Collaboratory
8 shall examine advanced SMRs' development in the United States, including projected costs,
9 technology options, power production capabilities, and deployment scenarios.
10 SECTION 1.(b) One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) in nonrecurring funds for
11 the 2021-2022 fiscal year is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of
12 The University of North Carolina to be allocated to the Collaboratory to implement the
13 requirements of this section.
14 SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
