Short Title: Let Retired Municipal LEOs Work for Sheriffs. (Public)

3 WORK FOR A COUNTY SHERIFF AFTER RETIREMENT, WITHOUT ANY
4 LIMITATIONS ON THE AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION THE RETIREE MAY EARN.
5 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
6 SECTION 1. G.S. 128-24(5) is amended by adding a new sub-subdivision to read:
7 "f. Notwithstanding any provision of this Chapter, Chapter 143 of the
8 General Statutes, or any other provision of State law to the contrary,
9 any member who retired as a law enforcement officer from a
10 municipality may continue to receive benefits under the provisions of
11 this Chapter and Article 12E of Chapter 143 of the General Statutes
12 while working for the sheriff of the county in any capacity at any time
13 after retirement, without any limitation on the amount of compensation
14 the member may earn."
15 SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2021, and applies to eligible
16 members of the Local Government Employees' Retirement System who retire before, on, or after
17 that date.
