Short Title: Even-Year Elections/Town of Trent Woods. (Local)

2 AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF
3 TRENT WOODS SHALL BE HELD IN EVEN-NUMBERED YEARS AND TO EXTEND
4 THE TERMS OF TOWN OFFICERS ELECTED IN 2019 BY ONE YEAR.
5 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
6 SECTION 1. The Charter of the Town of Trent Woods, being Chapter 718 of the
7 1959 Session Laws, as amended by Section 2 of Chapter 947 of the 1989 Session Laws, reads as
8 rewritten:
9 "Section 1. That certain area of Craven County, North Carolina, described in Section 2 below
10 is hereby incorporated under the name "Trent Woods" and the same is hereby created a body
11 politic and corporate; and shall hereafter possess all of the corporate powers and be subject to all
12 of the provisions contained in Chapter 160 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, except that
13 it shall have no power to levy or collect taxes of any kind whatever.

15 "Sec. 3. The officers of said municipality shall consist of a mayor and three commissioners.
16 Regular Municipal Elections. In 2022, regular municipal elections shall be held in each
17 even-numbered year in accordance with the uniform municipal election laws of North Carolina.
18 "Sec. 4. Until their successors shall be elected and qualified pursuant to the provisions of
19 Chapter 160, Article 3, of the General Statutes of North Carolina, the following persons shall be
20 and are hereby constituted the officers of said town, to wit: Mayor, George R. Scott;
21 Commissioners, C. Stroud Tilley, George T. Burnette, Jr., and G. C. Honeycutt. Election of
22 Mayor and Commissioners. The officers of the Town shall consist of a mayor and three
23 commissioners elected to serve two-year terms and until their successors are elected and
24 qualified. In 2022, and biennially thereafter, the Mayor and three commissioners shall be elected
25 to serve two-year terms.

27 SECTION 2. No municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of Trent Woods
28 in 2021. The two-year terms of the Mayor and three commissioners elected in 2019 are extended
29 by one year until 2022. Regular municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of Trent
30 Woods in 2022.
31 SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections held
32 on or after that date.
