2 AN ACT APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO STUDY AND ABATE OCULAR MELANOMA IN
3 NORTHERN MECKLENBURG COUNTY.
4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
5 SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of
6 Health and Human Services the sum of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) in nonrecurring
7 funds for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, to be allocated to the Nicholas School of the Environment at
8 Duke University to study the potential causes of and solutions for abating ocular melanoma in
9 the towns of Huntersville and Cornelius and the surrounding area. In conducting this study, the
10 Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University shall coordinate with the North Carolina
11 Policy Collaboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (the Collaboratory) and
12 employ the strategies recommended by the Collaboratory in its April 2020 report to the General
13 Assembly under Session Law 2019-145.
14 SECTION 2. The Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, in
15 cooperation with the Collaboratory, shall submit a report on the results of the study, including
16 any proposed legislation, to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human
17 Services on or before December 1, 2021.
18 SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2020.
