4 A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF
5 MONTANA REQUESTING AN INTERIM STUDY OF THE PRISON POPULATION AND THE POTENTIAL USE
6 OF REGIONAL INMATE FACILITIES; AND REQUIRING THAT THE FINAL RESULTS OF THE STUDY BE
7 REPORTED TO THE 69TH LEGISLATURE.

9 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF
10 MONTANA:
11 That the Legislative Council be requested to designate an appropriate interim committee or statutory
12 committee, pursuant to section 5-5-217, MCA, to investigate the prison population and the potential use of
13 regional facilities that serve both for incarceration and detention.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the study look into:
15 (1) splitting the cost of facilities between state and local entities;
16 (2) opportunities to expand employment pools for facilities; and
17 (3) how to meet the needs of counties that do not have facilities for detention or incarceration.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all aspects of the study, including presentation and review
19 requirements, be concluded prior to September 15, 2024.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the final results of the study, including any findings, conclusions,
21 comments, or recommendations of the appropriate committee, be reported to the 69th Legislature.
