 14    A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: “AN ACT REQUIRING A CANDIDATE FOR OFFICE TO BE REGISTERED
 15    TO VOTE; AMENDING SECTION 2-16-102, MCA; AND PROVIDING AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.”

 17    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

 19            Section 1. Section 2-16-102, MCA, is amended to read:
 20            "2-16-102.     Qualifications generally -- age and citizenship. (1) Provisions respecting
 21    disqualifications for particular offices are contained in the constitution and in the provisions of the laws
 22    concerning the various offices.
 23            (2)       A person is not eligible to hold civil office in this state who at the time of election or appointment
 24    is not 18 years of age or older and a citizen of this state.
 25            (3)       A person is not eligible to hold civil office in this state who at the time of election is not
 26    registered to vote in Montana."

 28            NEW SECTION. Section 2.           Effective date. [This act] is effective on passage and approval.
