4 A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: β€œAN ACT PROVIDING STATE RECOGNITION FOR THE NORTHERN
5 TRIBES DUI TASK FORCE; PROVIDING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TRIBAL TASK FORCE TO OBTAIN
6 STATE RECOGNITION; PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.”

8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

10 NEW SECTION. Section 1. Tribal drinking and driving prevention task force. (1) The department
11 may provide state recognition to the northern tribes DUI task force.
12 (2) To be recognized by the department under this section, the northern tribes DUI task force:
13 (a) must have members representing each of the participating tribal governments;
14 (b) shall study the problem of alcohol-related traffic accidents; and
15 (c) shall develop and recommend to the participating tribal governments a program designed to:
16 (i) prevent driving while under the influence of alcohol;
17 (ii) reduce alcohol-related traffic accidents, injuries, and deaths; and
18 (iii) educate the public on the dangers of driving after consuming alcoholic beverages or other chemical
19 substances that impair judgment or motor functions.
20 (3) The northern tribes DUI task force recognized under this section is eligible to receive funding
21 appropriated to the task force and any other state funding available for drinking and driving prevention
22 programs under this part.

24 NEW SECTION. Section 2. Appropriation. There is appropriated $150,000 of the state's portion of
25 the driver's license reinstatement fees to the department of transportation for the biennium beginning July 1,
26 2021, for the purposes of funding the northern tribes DUI task force pursuant to [section 1].

28 NEW SECTION. Section 3. Notification to tribal governments. The secretary of state shall send a

1 copy of [this act] to each federally recognized tribal government in Montana.

3 NEW SECTION. Section 4. Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an
4 integral part of Title 61, chapter 2, part 1, and the provisions of Title 61, chapter 2, part 1, apply to [section 1].

6 NEW SECTION. Section 5. Effective date. [This act] is effective July 1, 2021.
