As an educator, a rabbi, and a parent here in Missouri, I am appalled that this committee is conisdering taking away money from our early childhood education centers, our institutions of higher education, and our libraries. Every known study concludes that quality early childhood education leads to improved outcomes for students, their families, AND THEIR WHOLE COMMUNITIES. Why would you take away funding for something that is in the clear best interests of our communities and our state as a whole?!In addition, libraries are centers for learning and exploration that are available to everyone, regardless of age, social status, wealth, or background. There are a haven of knowledge and it is not the job of this committee, nor of this government, to restrict people's free access to knowledge. You may not tell me, my children, my congregants, or my students what information we can or cannot learn.Please oppose these ammendments offered by Representative Smith and restore the Governor's proposed funding for early childhood education, higher education, and libraries.
