SPONSOR: Dogan

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Criminal Justice by a vote of 9 to 0. Vote "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Rules- Administrative Oversight by a vote of 14 to 0.

This bill designates that portion of Interstate 70 from Shreve Road continuing to Kingshighway Boulevard as the "David Dorn Memorial Highway". The Department of Transportation will erect and maintain the signs, with the costs to be paid by private donations.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this names a section of highway after the late Captain David Dorn, who was murdered on June 2, 2020, while protecting his friend's pawn shop in St. Louis. They want to show him and his family that his decades of service are appreciated. He was a mentor and a role model to everyone he met. They want his legacy remembered, because he died doing what he loved and he died a hero. He built bridges culturally and he built bridges between law enforcement and the community.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Dogan; Elizabeth Rechtien; St. Louis Police Officers Association; Missouri Fraternal Order of Police; Ann Dorn; Kielen Powell; Brian Powell; and Debra Dorn-White.
