HB 1288 -- MONTESSORI SCHOOLS

SPONSOR: Kelly (141)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Small Business by a vote of 14 to 0.

This bill changes the definition for a "Montessori school" in Section 210.201, RSMo as it applies for Sections 210.201 to 210.257 to either an accredited school or a school maintaining an active school membership with a professional society represented by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education.

This bill is the same as SB 457 (2021).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill fixes an issue and modifies the definition for a Montessori school. Because of the law that was passed it limited who could give the school accreditation. This bill opens it up to schools that are accredited by or maintain an active school membership with a professional society represented on the board of directors of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Kelly.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
