SPONSOR: Mayhew

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Transportation by a vote of 13 to 0.

This bill designates the bridge on State Highway 17 crossing over the BSNF Railroad south of the city of Crocker in Pulaski County as "US Navy FA Paul Akers Jr Memorial Bridge". The Department of Transportation will erect and maintain appropriate signs designating the bridge, with the costs to be paid by private donations.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this is a fitting tribute to Mr. Akers.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Mayhew.

OPPONENTS: Those who oppose the bill say that it is unfair to recognize and memorialize only one veteran, when there are so many.
