HCR 9 -- NETWORK CARRIAGE CONTRACTS

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Utilities by a vote of 8 to 0. Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Rules- Administrative Oversight by a vote of 10 to 2.

This resolution urges U.S. Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to change the laws regarding carriage agreements to allow television providers to broadcast a major broadcast network from a different city during contract disputes with a local broadcaster.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that FCC needs to look into allowing television providers to broadcast network television from other markets during contract disputes. This would force all sides of the negotiations to work toward a faster solution and would help keep rates down for consumers.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Eggleston. Additional testimony was submitted in support of the resolution.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
