HB 687 -- MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTIONS

SPONSOR: Riley

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass by Consent" by the Standing Committee on Transportation by a vote of 14 to 0. Voted "Do Pass- Consent" by the Standing Committee on Consent and House Procedure by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill exempts new motor vehicles from the requirement that motor vehicles receive a safety inspection immediately prior to their sale regardless of any current certificate of inspection and approval.

This bill is the same as SB 46 (2021).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this will provide more transparency and safety, and fix a mistake that required even new cars to be inspected.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Riley; Arnie Dienoff; Abate for Missouri; and the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
