HB 296 -- STATE PERSONNEL LAW

SPONSOR: Wallingford

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass by Consent" by the Standing Committee on Veterans by a vote of 14 to 0. Voted "Do Pass- Consent" by the Standing Committee on Consent and House Procedure by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill modifies the definition of "surviving spouse" as it relates to state personnel law.

This bill is the same as HB 1566 (2020).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the one word change in the bill corrects for an error that appeared in an amendment that affected the state's merit system. Supporters also say that this change was passed by each chamber last year but the bill was vetoed by the Governor for unrelated issues.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Wallingford; Arnie Dienoff; and Pat Rowe Kerr.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
