HB 2738 -- HOME VISIT PROGRAM

This bill directs the Department of Social Services to create a voluntary home visit program to provide support to women who are pregnant and to women and families caring for a newborn under the age of 12 months, including foster and adoptive children. The program will aim to improve maternal and child health, encourage positive parenting, and promote healthy child development.

The department will also develop a brochure about the program that will be distributed to local health department in the state, develop and deliver a training program for home visitors, and establish guidelines for a health care provider risk assessment of pregnant women that considers; income, mental illness, and other factors relating to economic and social supports.

The program will sunset in six years if not reauthorized.
