HB 2237 -- DISMEMBERMENT ABORTIONS

This bill defines and prohibits "dismemberment abortion" as an abortion with the purpose of killing a living fetus by extraction from the uterus, one piece at a time. A woman who undergoes a dismemberment abortion, her parents if the woman is a minor, and the prosecuting attorney in the woman's jurisdiction may petition the court for an injunction to prohibit a physician from performing dismemberment abortions. Also, these same parties, and in addition, parents of a woman over 18, and the father of the unborn child may bring an action for recovery of damages in cases of dismemberment abortion.
