This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to create and make available on its website an interactive map of hazardous waste sites in the state. The maps must link to certain information. Before January 1, 2021, each hazardous waste site must post an informational sign at each entrance to the site. The department must develop language for the sign as specified in the bill.
This bill is similar to HB 914 (2019).
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that it is important for people to be aware of what types of hazardous waste sites are in their communities. Even if the site doesn't pose a health risk, it is still important to ensure that the information is available to citizens who live near the sites.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
OTHERS: Others testifying on the bill said that the Department of Natural Resources has an interactive web site that citizens can use to find hazardous waste sites throughout the state and has been moving towards electronic records since 2017 to make information more readily available to the public.
