This bill allows a county treasurer to have access to documents in the possession of county officials upon request if they are financially relevant when reviewing a warrant. Officials of any county cannot deny a request from a county treasurer for access to or a copy of any document in the possession of the county official if the document is financially relevant to the county official s duties.
Currently, the failure or refusal of a county treasurer or other county officer to perform his or her duties under this provision shall result in a misdemeanor, a fine of $100 to $500, and vacating his or her office. This act removes the limitation of $500 for the fine and removes vacating the office as a penalty.
This bill is the same as SB 576 (2020).
