HB 1672 -- SHOW-ME HEALTHY BABIES PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

SPONSOR: Unsicker

This bill clarifies that a child is eligible for the Show-Me Healthy Babies Program up to one year of age, even if the child or mother was not enrolled before the birth of the child. Currently, only unborn children are eligible. As with unborn children, there will be no waiting period for a child under one year of age to be enrolled in the program, and the Department of Social Services must develop a presumptive eligibility procedure.

The bill requires that coverage is provided for an unborn child or a child up to one year of age in the three months before an application was submitted, as required under federal law.

The department is required to provide information about the Show-Me Healthy Babies program to nurse home visiting programs, parents as teachers and other similar resources.
