HB 1524 -- DISPOSITION OF FETAL REMAINS

SPONSOR: Shawan

This bill states that the final disposition for any fetus or stillborn baby shall be burial, entombment, or cremation. Current law also allows delivery to an educational or medical institution for donation, delivery to the state anatomical board or removal from the state, options which would not longer be allowed under the provisions of this bill (Sections 194.200, 375, 378, and 381).

The bill also requires a physician performing an abortion to provide the woman, in person, with materials developed and provided by the Department of Health and Senior Services explaining that she has the right to determine the final disposition of the fetus so long as it is burial, entombment, or cremation (Section 188.027, RSMo).
