HB 305 -- MATERNAL CARE ACT

SPONSOR: Walker

This bill establishes the "Maternal CARE Act" which creates pregnancy medical homes that are non-residential facilities offering obstetrical care with the goal of ending preventable morbidity and mortality in maternity care. It requires the Department of Health and Senior Services to work with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement the program.

Providers at the homes shall have training on how to provide culturally and linguistically competent care and use a standard assessment tool. The department will also assign a care manager for each home that will coordinate care for all patients and require each participating home to conduct a risk assessment for every pregnant patient at the patient's first prenatal appointment. The homes will prioritize care of patients enrolled in MO HealthNet.
