COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Elections and Elected Officials by a vote of 5 to 2.

This bill allows a person 60 years of age or older to vote by absentee ballot without giving a reason.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will help elderly and disabled persons vote more effectively. It is a modest change in the current absentee ballot law that will benefit senior citizens.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Shull; and the American Association of Retired Persons.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
