Currently, when the Director of the Department of Public Safety has knowledge of cause to discipline a peace officer licensee, the director may cause a complaint to be filed with the Administrative Hearing Commission. Additionally, the director may issue an emergency order, without notice or hearing, to suspend a peace officer licensee's license when probable cause exists to suspend the license immediately. This bill requires the director to cause a complaint to be filed with the Administrative Hearing Commission when the director has knowledge of cause to discipline a peace officer licensee, and it requires the director to suspend the peace officer licensee's license when probable cause exists to suspend the license immediately.
