HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.302
Reps. Paiz, Breen, Brixie, DeBoer, Fitzgerald, Glanville,
Haadsma, Hood, MacDonell, McFall, Rheingans and Wilson offered the
following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare September 15-October 15, 2024, as
2 Hispanic Heritage Month in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, This observation originated in 1968 as Hispanic
4 Heritage Week as approved by President Lyndon Johnson, and was
5 expanded by President Ronald Reagan to encompass the thirty-days of
6 September 15 through October 15; Hispanic Heritage Month was
7 enacted into law in 1988 as Public Law 100-402; and
8 Whereas, Michigan is fortunate to count among its population a
9 great number of residents of Spanish and Latin American heritage
10 whose contributions to education, agriculture, law, science, and

1 other professions, also extend to the Michigan workforce and the
2 strengthening of our state’s economy and representation in state
3 and local governments; and
4 Whereas, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the various many
5 histories and accomplishments of our Hispanic and Latino citizens,
6 and celebrates with special events highlighting their diverse
7 cultures and communities; now, therefore, be it
8 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
9 this legislative body declare September 15-October 15, 2024, as
10 Hispanic Heritage Month in the state of Michigan.
