Paiz offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare May 19-25, 2024, as Emergency Medical
2 Services Week in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Emergency medical services is a vital public service;
4 and
5 Whereas, The members of emergency medical services teams are
6 ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day,
7 seven days a week; and
8 Whereas, Access to quality emergency care dramatically
9 improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience

1 sudden illness or injury; and
2 Whereas, Emergency medical services has grown to fill a gap by
3 providing important, out of hospital care, including preventative
4 medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and
5 Whereas, The emergency medical services system consists of
6 first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics,
7 emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers,
8 educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses,
9 emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out
10 of hospital medical care providers; and
11 Whereas, The members of emergency medical services teams,
12 whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of
13 specialized training and continuing education to enhance their
14 lifesaving skills; and
15 Whereas, It is appropriate to recognize the value and the
16 accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by
17 designating the Emergency Medical Services Week; now, therefore, be
18 it
19 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
20 this legislative body declare May 19-25, 2024, as Emergency Medical
21 Services Week in the state of Michigan. The 50th anniversary of EMS
22 Week theme is: Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future. We encourage
23 communities across the state to observe this week with appropriate
24 programs, ceremonies, and activities.
