HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.48
Reps. Churches, Arbit, Breen, Conlin, Fitzgerald, Glanville,
Haadsma, Hope, Hoskins, Koleszar, Morse, Price, Rheingans, Rogers and
Weiss offered the following resolution:
1 A resolution to declare March 1, 2023, as Endometriosis
2 Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.
3 Whereas, Endometriosis is a disease of the female reproductive
4 system. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to that normally
5 found in the uterus begins to grow outside of the uterus, leading
6 to chronic, debilitating pelvic pain; and
7 Whereas, Endometriosis is a leading cause of female
8 infertility. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women between the ages
9 of 15 and 44 in the United States. There is an average of a 10 year
10 delay from the onset of symptoms to the final diagnosis of

1 endometriosis; and
2 Whereas, American endometriosis patients were hospitalized
3 105,123 days in 2010 because of their disease. Women with
4 endometriosis can lose 11 hours per work week through lost
5 productivity and absenteeism due to pain. Fifty-one percent of
6 endometriosis patients report that their condition detrimentally
7 affects their job; and
8 Whereas, The estimated total annual societal burden of
9 endometriosis-related symptoms in the U.S. is $56 billion, or
10 $10,824 per patient; and
11 Whereas, There is no cure for endometriosis. More research is
12 necessary to develop treatment options to manage this debilitating
13 disease. Education is important for promoting awareness of symptoms
14 and early detection and diagnosis of endometriosis; and
15 Whereas, Endometriosis Awareness Day is the period of time
16 when people recognize the impact of this disease on women’s health
17 and well-being, and understand that more work must be done to
18 mitigate negative impacts of endometriosis; now, therefore, be it
19 Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of
20 this legislative body declare March 1, 2023, as Endometriosis
21 Awareness Day in the state of Michigan. We recognize the
22 significant impacts of this disease on women’s health outcomes.
