House Bill 4735 (Substitute S-1 as reported)

Sponsor:   Representative Graham Filler

House Committee: Transportation

Senate Committee: Transportation and Infrastructure

CONTENT

The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to do the following:

--       Designate the portion of Highway US-127 in Clinton County beginning at the intersection of Highway US-127 and Wildcat Road and extending north to the intersection of Highway US-127 and Livingston Road as the "PFC Ronald James Fitch Memorial Highway".

--       Designate the portion of Highway M-50 in Eaton County beginning at the intersection of Highway M-50 and Highway I-69 and extending west to the intersection of Highway M-50 and Courthouse Drive as the "Ensign Francis Flaherty Memorial Highway".

Proposed MCL 250.1103                                                                                       Legislative Analyst:   Tyler VanHuyse

FISCAL IMPACT

The bill would have no fiscal impact on State or local government. The Act specifies that the Department of Transportation may provide for the erection and maintenance of markers designating the name of a highway only when sufficient private funds are available to cover the costs of erecting and maintaining those markers. As such, private funds would cover the cost of the renaming, and no State funds would be used.
